I find it almost pointless to review The Dark Knight. I mean, it was an outstanding film and it definitely falls on the lesser end of my favorite movies (more of a compliment than it sounds), but I feel like the six people in the world who haven't seen it or had it ruined by friends and co-workers at this point won't be too interested in my review. But hey, at least I can cut back on the bashing on this one.
The Dark Knight is the sequel to the second greatest Batman movie of all time, Batman Begins. Director Christopher Nolan shouldn't take that second place thing to heart though, because The Dark Knight without a doubt took the number one spot. Anyway, it's been a year since we've last seen Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and he's been keeping his pimp hand strong in regards to the Gotham city criminals.
Just when the mob bosses don't know what to do with the likes of Batman and the new District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), along comes The Joker (Heath Ledger). Now it's up to Batman to stop The Joker in his tracks and bring him to justice. The only problem is that The Joker is a lot more than Batman had predicted. Unlike Batman, The Joker has no rules, conscience, or sanity; he has no motivation for what he does other than to bring chaos.
The movie is absolutely amazing. I wish I was doing this review when the movie was first released in theaters because it just blew me away. I actually went and paid to see it four times. I can't remember doing that with any movie in my entire lifetime. Not only because of fanboys like myself, but with the assistance of pretty much every person on earth, The Dark Knight has become the second most profitable film of all time. Even though some people claim it is due to Ledger's passing, I reject that idea without question. Everything about the film, especially Ledger's performance, was just outstanding. There is no doubt that he deserved the Academy Award for best supporting actor.
It seemed like the movie had everything. There was action, romance, comedy, horror, and social commentary. It not only had all of these qualities, but they were all executed very well and in all the right places. The horror aspect was probably the most impressing, being that I've seen more horror movies than most people have seen movies in general. I can
Here's the bad part of this review. Putting the film with its immaculate cast, writing, setting, music, and pretty much anything else you can think of in a movie, the DVD is a flop. I have to review the film and features, and from that come up with a final grade. The problem is there are no features. I have the one disc edition and to get anything extra you had see the two disc edition.
It kills me that I won't be giving The Dark Knight my first A+ as a final grade. Aside from the stupid voice Bale did while he was in the Batman suit I really thought the movie was perfect. I can't say I've gone to many two and a half hour movies and wanted to get more when it was all over. From open to close the movie will keep you entertained and if the features really matter to you, then check out the two disc addition.
