Scary Movie 3.5

I gotta say, it's great to see Hollywood still ripping on horror films. This time, their back for a third installment of the Scary Movie series. The first was classic, the second was kind of lame, and now the third will hopefully prove itself with a new cast and a Naked Gun approach to it with Leslie Nielson hitting the screen for comedic support.

Anna Faris is back alongside Charlie Sheen and a pretty good cast that all work well together. This time there are new scary flicks to poke fun at and new characters to utilize in a comedy that never sleeps. References from The Ring, 8 Mile, and Signs are just a few of the blockbusters and other pop culture that are riffed on in this film.

It's all very funny, and is pretty much a cartoon with actors. The problem is there is nothing or no one to care about it since everything makes fun of itself; it also never takes a deep breath to focus on something meaningful to the plot. This is no surprise, as all these parodies are made up of a continuity of repetitive comedic actions.

The opening is great, and really had me interested in where they were taking the story. After a while I just wanted to laugh more and more, and the funny parts became less and less funny. The shock value is the core ingredient to a film like this, and once the audience fails to be shocked, then we just have an okay comedy. Okay is this entire movie is, and I'm sorry, there just doesn't need to be a 3.5 for this one.

However, it is Scary Movie 3.5, and there are lots of extras. There are plenty of new deleted scenes and some funny outtakes that are worthy a glance. This disc includes alternate endings and the making of. So if you absolutely loved this parody, I do suggest this DVD.
