Gilmore Girls – The Complete Sixth Season

"Yes!" Introverted Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) accepts commitment-phobic Lorelai Gilmore's (Lauren Graham) marriage proposal. Lorelai seems to be on cloud-nine except for the fact that her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), the girl who could probably spell “ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM” at the age of six has dropped out of her ivy league university. Indeed, the perfect twist to start the best season in Gilmore history, which is extremely impressive for a WB show to peek in one of its final seasons. The 6th time around, the Gilmore Girls gets juicy. An unknown daughter pops up on the scene, an engagement seems like it's going to stay as just that, couples make up and break up and an unconventional wedding occurs all in this thrilling, fast-paced season.

"Tough love, baby," pretty much sums up Lorelai's way of handling Rory's shocking revelations. I thought it was going to be brief, but it turned out to be a serious beef. It actually took up half of the 6th season. Well, not good for them, but better for us… we get to see Rory, the note-taker, the planner, the over-achiever, have to complete 300 hours of community service and work for the D.A.R. instead of studying for tests and working for the Yale newspaper.

There's nothing better than a blast from the past to put your life in perspective. You can tell that you've changed if your ex looks at your evening wear and thinks it's your Halloween outfit. Good going, Jess. Do you remember Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia)? The disheveled, bad boy from who debuted in Season 2 is back in Stars Hollow. This time he's polished and published, making Rory feel proud of her former boyfriend, but disappointed in herself when he lets her know how he feels after an uncomfortable dinner that includes Rory's current boyfriend, Logan (Matt Czuchry). “This isn't you. What are you doing? Living at your grandmother’s place? Being in the D.A.R? No Yale? WHY DID YOU DROP OUT OF YALE? This isn't you"¦..you going out with this jerk with a Porcshe"¦.we made fun of guys like this… what's going on?" All she can do it shrug. If words could kill, right? All she knows is, Mr. Huntzberger, Logan's father (Gregg Henry), crushed any dream she had concerning journalism, and she has no idea how to pick herself up.

Who is the villain of this show? Is it Emily (Kelly Bishop) who says things like, "Well, Rory is a girl, girls like pink, no one's asking you to wear it, it's not a skirt." Is it Richard (Edward Herrmann) who

keeps on interfering in his daughter's and grand-daughter's lives? Or is it Rory for leaving Yale and creating the fight with Lorelai? Then again, is it Lorelai for not supporting Rory’s leave of absence? Hmmm, one could argue for all four, but the real villain is Mr. Huntzberger. JERK. There aren't enough cuss words in the world to insult a man like this one. He is the sole cause of Rory's leave from Yale and Logan's business departure from the States to England. I wonder if there's any room for him to do any damage in the upcoming season, or will the show have to find a new villain to add some torture and strife.

A definite must-see is Episode 7, "21 Is the Loneliest Number." It's Rory's birthday, and Emily excitedly prepares for Rory's party. However, the fun abates a bit when Emily realizes that lace invitations and a disgusting pink drink named Rory aren't the only things that her granddaughter might desire. Emily and Richard think she may be considering getting it on with Logan, which brings me to another big speech, which will be known as classic in the Gilmore Girls archives. Emily and Richard's minister give a lecture to Rory over pot roast in the Gilmore household. Gilmore Girls regulars know that Rory lost her virginity a few seasons ago to her married, ex-boyfriend, Dean (Jared Padalecki), so her virginity is an ancient term in this season.

This season is the series' best so far. Wit and originality never lessens on this show, and hopefully, they will keep it up for the next season. It will be interesting to see where the next season goes considering Logan's departure for London and the love triangle between Lorelai, Chris and Luke cliffhanger. We eagerly await the season premier. "I hate mondays, but come around eventually," Lorelai shouts at Luke. I know what she means. I wish it premieres on a Monday, but we gotta wait until Tuesday. However, there is a downside though. The DVD package was a bore, but since this season is beyond good, no one will care.
