The charming indie comedy CHOOCH offers a heartwarming affirmation of family, friendship, and community wrapped within a madcap crime caper. Growing up in an Italian-American neighborhood in Queens, New York, thirtysomething ne’er-do-well Dino Condito (Carmine Famiglietti) has been regarded as something of a “chooch” (Italian slang for blockhead)–especially after blowing an important softball game against a rival team. In an effort to cheer him up, Dino’s cousin Jubilene (Joe Summa) takes him on vacation to Cancun, Mexico, where a luggage mix-up lands the dopey duo in a zany adventure involving local criminals, a bag of stolen cash, and a beautiful prostitute named Ladonna (Paola Walker) before the Queens homies–and Dino’s adorable pet dachshund–arrive to bail them out. Sweet-natured and fun, CHOOCH’s distinctly Noo Yawk flavor is further enhanced by voiceover narration from famous Bronx DJ “Gumba” Johnny Sialiano.
