Michael Cera has been playing an awkward, high school teenager for seven years. In fact, Cera has been playing the role for so long that it had become unclear whether or not the Superbad star could act any other part. Well, rest assured, Youth in Revolt aims to dispell that question.
Cera really lets go of his high school personality to play the rebellious and disgusting Francois Dillinger. The movie hits DVD and Blu-Ray Tuesday (June 15th) and is certainly worth checking out, for both fans of Cera and those who think his acting range is quite limited. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.
Also arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow is the post-apocalyptic movie, The Book of Eli. The movie is directed by the Hughes brothers and is easily their best work to date. The dark, gritty style of the movie is perfect for those who prefer a darker tone to their action flicks. The story is also quite good, with Denzel Washington playing Eli, a man trying to protect a sacred book from those who might extort it after nuclear weapons change the face of America.
The romantic comedy When in Rome also releases Tuesday on both DVD and Blu-ray. The comedy stars Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel, and was directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider, Daredevil). The movie didn’t fare so well in theaters, but looks to hit a much bigger audience in rental stores.
Also releasing this week is the straight-to-video Unthinkable, a fantastic thriller staring Samuel L. Jackson and Carrie-Anne Moss. In it, Jackson plays an unknown asset to the government, named ‘H’, who specializes in interogations. The movie takes ‘good cop, bad cop’ to an extreme, with Carrie-Anne Moss spending the majority of the film as the ‘good cop’ to Jackson’s questionably evil ‘bad cop’.
